If you hoped to see the return of old class systems and weapons tied to classes in the upcoming Battlefield 6, you will be disappointed. Again.

Battlefield Update – Recent News from Developers

EA DICE has shared some new information regarding the class system in Battlefield 6, and players aren’t particularly happy about it. It looks like developers doubled down on their decision to make all weapons easily accessible to all playable classes, partially stripping the classes of their uniqueness.

While freedom of choice sounds good in theory, players raised some valid concerns about this kind of approach to gameplay. Their voices weren’t taken into account, though, but the company says that they take player feedback from Battlefield Labs testing servers seriously, and they consider all options.

Sticking to this approach means we’ll likely run into the same issues we saw in Battlefield 2042 – a game that tried something similar.

Battlefield 6 Class System

BF 6 classes are a new iteration of systems known from BF 2042, emphasizing customization, freedom of choice, and no weapon restrictions. There are some important changes, though, which could make the new system actually good, and perhaps EA is in the right this time.

According to EA DICE, classes in Battlefield 6 will consist of two main components: customizable (weapon loadouts, class gadgets, training, throwables) and class-defining (signature weapons, traits, gadgets, and weapon packages). This means that even though all classes will be able to use all weapons, there will still be some things that give classes a sense of uniqueness.

Each class will be able to choose a specific training path. For example, a recon can follow the path of a sniper or a pathfinder; a sniper will excel at long-range combat (just like in Battlefield V) while a pathfinder will move silently and mark targets for the team. Regardless of choice, recons will be able to call in a UAV for help and passive spotting.

Recon Combat Role in Battlefield V

Nothing is stopping a recon from going for an AR or SMG, though, but he’ll miss out on some important benefits of a recon, as recons will be naturally more efficient with sniper rifles.

However, some weapons may be naturally more powerful than others, encouraging everyone to go for similar loadouts and making most of the other weapons entirely obsolete. That’s one of the main concerns from the players; imagine everyone goes for sniper rifles regardless of their class, resulting in a total campfest. Sniper rifles are generally very powerful and will most likely be worth using even if you’re not a recon.

EA is still trying to find the right class balance, so everything is subject to change before the game is released.
