After the end of the second season of Andor, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is experiencing a full-blown renaissance.
Interest in the title has grown among players and actors associated with the Star Wars universe, now demanding a sequel – Battlefront III.
The data indicates that player numbers have exploded since the end of the Andor TV show on Disney. Although the game launched in 2017 and already experienced the highest number of concurrent players in January 2021, it’s rising to peak popularity again in May 2025.
What led to this sudden rebirth of a title we once considered a forgotten classic?
Battlefront 2 is back on top! Is this a signal for EA?
Andor’s Powerful Influence
Although the Andor TV show officially ended with the grand finale of its second season, its actor, Muhannad Ben Amor, has joined the growing calls for a Battlefront III release. As he shared on Instagram, he grew up playing the already classic Battlefront II, eventually spending an impressive 469 hours in the game. “Star Wars gotta give us Battlefront 3 ASAP,” he posted, but will his plea be enough to convince EA to revive the series?
Battlefront II Controversy
While today’s Star Wars hype is clearly giving Battlefront II a second life, DICE may be unwilling to make a new installment due to the dramatic controversy surrounding its predecessor’s release. After all, BF2 has faced massive criticism from players due to the game’s microtransactions and loot box-based progression system.
Although the title has rehabilitated itself in the players’ eyes over the years, its recent popularity may not be enough for DICE to revisit the Star Wars universe. Especially since the developer is currently working on Battlefield 6 – a video game surrounded by great expectations from fans worldwide.
The Rebellion Spreads
Nevertheless, the numbers speak for themselves, and as of May 22nd, BF2 had an impressive 9,292 concurrent players on Steam (quite an increase from the previous 2,000!).
No wonder, as an enormous share of the Andor audience has embraced the spirit of rebellion and is now yearning for a new medium to channel that energy. It seems that Battlefront II fans are trying to spread the word as far as possible to motivate EA to consider a mass call to action. But will EA ever answer?
Should EA use BF2’s current popularity to fulfill players’ dreams? Or is it time for someone else to take over? Let us know what you think and what you hope to see when Battlefront III eventually releases!
