We know have a confirmation that Bethesda is working on a new Fallout game. The specifics are very unclear, but here’s the trailer:

Scroll down to the comment section and you’re gonna see a wall of users typing #saveplayer1. This is in reference to leaks suggesting that Fallout 76 may be a completely multiplayer, survival game similar to Rust. Of course these are unsubstantiated, some are speculating that the game will merely prominently feature coop.

Either way this is most probably not a direct follow-up to Fallout 4, the title alone makes it sound like a spin-off and it definitely doesn’t seem to follow the most prominent themes of the previous games in the series. The colors seem more lively and the tone seems more uplifting than cynical, which is something we haven’t seen before.

As a result many think this means Fallout 76 is a spin-off survival, multiplayer game with a big focus on base building. Now I’m all for letting games be what they want to be and unshackling them from their predecessors, I loath the “but the original was…” argument, but the cynic in me realizes that it’s not a result of artistic vision, but chasing market trends. Capitalism. Capitalism never changes.

We will find out more at E3 as Bethesda promised the game will feature prominently at their expo.
