The Blizzard Barcelona development team was established specifically to work on the mobile version, which suggests that the project is not a one-time experiment, but part of a long-term plan.

Free-to-Play and Microtransactions

One of the new things we already know is that the game will use Overwatch free to play mobile.

Overwatch Brand Revival Efforts

The release of Overwatch Rush fits into the broader Overwatch brand revival efforts. The franchise had a difficult period after the launch of Overwatch 2, but recently, the increase in player activity on Steam, part of the Overwatch 2 Steam player resurgence, shows that the community is still engaged.
