Are there any Deadlock fans here? If so, we have good news!
The beta version of the third-person MOBA shooter has received a huge update, Old Gods, New Blood, which significantly changes the pace of the game and adds a ton of new content.
Valve Shifts into High Gear in Deadlock
The new patch is not just cosmetic fixes, but a full-fledged content drop. Six new heroes are coming to the game, a brand new 4v4 Street Brawl mode is being introduced, and the key end goals, Patrons, have been completely redesigned.
On top of that, there are changes to the interface, post-match statistics, settings, and map layout.
If you want to know exactly what has changed, how the new mode works, and where to start after the update, read our guide!
Valve has released one of the biggest updates in the history of the Deadlock beta, which began rolling out on January 26.
The Old Gods, New Blood patch significantly expands the game’s content, introducing:
- six new heroes Silver REM Graves Apollo Venator Celeste,
- a new 4v4 Street Brawl mode focused on shorter, dynamic matches, and completely redesigned Patrons that change the atmosphere of the final battles.
The update also includes numerous system and visual improvements, from better HUD, clearer chat readability, to enhanced FOV slider and reticle options, as well as map layout changes to improve clarity during fights.
As you can see, this is an update that not only adds new content, but also streamlines the pace and clarity of gameplay in its third-person MOBA shooter gameplay.
Let’s take a closer look at what this update looks like below.
Six New Heroes
One of the key new features of the Old Gods, New Blood update is the expansion of the cast.
Valve has announced six heroes: Silver, REM, Graves, Apollo, Venator, and Celeste.
However, nothing is known about the order in which they will appear in the game. Their rollout follows a hero voting system in which players vote to decide which two heroes appear first, while the remaining ones will be added gradually according to a hero rollout cadence, starting January 26. This keeps the beta dynamic and community-driven.
Street Brawl 4v4
Another new feature in the update is Street Brawl-style mode, designed for dynamic and intense gameplay. Matches are played in a best-of-five rounds, with each round lasting only a few minutes, which significantly changes the pace of the game compared to classic modes.
Thanks to Street Brawl 4v4mode, players start each round with equal resources, and instead of a full shop, they choose from randomized item picks that can include Enhanced items or Legendary items, emphasizing quick decisions and adaptability over long-term strategies.
Patron Redesign Hidden King Archmother
One of the another noticeable changes is the redesign of the Patrons. Instead of the previous forms, players now face The Hidden King and The Archmother, characters deeply rooted in the world of Deadlock and its mythology.
The Hidden King brings an atmosphere of mystery and chaos, while the Archmother represents order and domination. This change makes the endings of matches more atmospheric and visually distinct between the sides of the conflict.
Clearer Gameplay, Better Statistics, and More Control
Valve also used the update to improve the gaming experience. The interface has become more transparent, the chat is clearer, and information during battles is easier to grasp. After the match, players now receive a more detailed match summary with postgame MVP scoring, which better shows the actual impact on the result.
The update also gives players more control, with a new FOV slider and extra reticle options for precise aiming, while map layout changes improve movement and readability. Overall, the game feels more transparent, intuitive, and responsive.
Deadlock Still in Beta
What we also know about the game is that despite the major update, Deadlock is still in beta and operates on an invite-only basis.
In addition, Valve has not yet announced a release date for version 1.0, and Old Gods, New Blood is the next stage in the game’s development, based on regular updates and community feedback.
