<Joke about politics in video games>

Democracy 3

It’s been 5 years since we got the last iteration of the brilliant politics simulators and oh boy have things changed in this short time-span. Playing Democracy 3 nowadays can give you a serious whiplash, it’s like gazing into a world of innocence lost. Things have been so, so much simpler in 2013 on account of lack of Nazis.

Fortunately the developers at Positech realize that and vow to make the game more modern to reflect the difficult issues of today. “The game will be completely updated to reflect modern issues, so no more worrying about the ‘V’ chip and other long forgotten issues, and more worrying about fake-news, social media, and other social phenomena driving politics in 2018 onwards”—says the Positech announcement.

Oh goody, that’s exactly what I wanted. The existential dread of post-truth society wasn’t overbearing and depressing enough. But I suppose this is good. At worst we can have some laugh at our collective misery and at best, perhaps we can glean some understanding of what is unarguably the darkest timeline.
