Destiny 2 kicks off a new saga with Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion, arriving really soon. Here’s what Guardians need to know.
The Edge of Fate expansion is dropping on July 15, 2025. You can already pre-purchase the full Destiny 2: Year of Prophecy bundle on Steam, but quick reminder: you’ll need the base Destiny 2 game installed to play it. Keep in mind it’s more than a seasonal update. It’s a major expansion packed with new features, mechanics, and endgame content – pretty much everything players have been waiting for.
Expansion: What’s in the Edge of Fate
Edge of Fate brings a fresh non-linear campaign set on Kepler, a mysterious new icy destination. Exploration is wide open, with puzzles and hidden secrets shaped by the influence of the Nine. It’s one of the most open-ended environments Bungie’s created yet.
We’re also getting the new Matterspark ability, turning your Guardian into a fast-moving ball of Arc energy. Once upgraded, it deals damage, grants resistance, and jolts enemies for bonus Arc hits. It’s pure chaos, in the best way.
Gear Up: Armor 3.0 and Heavy Crossbows
Expect a full suite of new exotic weapons and armor, tailored to shake up existing builds. Bungie’s dropping Armor 3.0, introducing universal mod slots and set bonuses to give players more control over how they play. Even better: we’re getting a new weapon class, Heavy Crossbows, with different elemental bolt types.
Endgame players, there’s also a new raid and a new dungeon in this one. No waiting around, no drip-feed because both are part of the launch. They’re also adding a Shooting Range in the Tower, finally giving players a spot to test their builds properly.
Pre-ordering the Year of Prophecy Edition gets you some early perks:
- Exotic Ghost and a Legendary Emblem for Edge of Fate (available through July 29),
- plus full Rewards Pass access for the entire year.
It also includes an Exotic Ship and a second Legendary Emblem for the Renegades expansion coming later.
Beginning of the Year of Prophecy
Edge of Fate goes beyond the usual DLC format. It kicks off Destiny 2’s new “Year of Prophecy” content arc, a post–Final Shape narrative shift toward a bigger multi-year saga – one Bungie’s calling the Fate Saga. Their new model aims for smaller, six-month expansions supported by free mid-season updates, keeping the pace snappy and fresh.
PC Specs and Platform Support
The game stays strong on PC (Steam), with Bungie continuing cross-platform support. Minimum PC specs are still pretty manageable:
- Windows® 10 64-bit,
- Intel® Core™ i3 3250 or AMD FX-4350,
- 6 GB RAM,
- GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7850,
- and 105 GB of free space.
In other words clean out your drive if you haven’t already.
Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate: What’s Coming Next?
This expansion’s not the end of the line. Renegades is locked in for December 2, 2025. And the big surprise? A Star Wars crossover is reportedly on the way. If that turns out to be real, Destiny 2 could be in for its weirdest, most unpredictable year yet.
