One of the best games of all time is getting a remake, though kind of a weird one. It’s pretty much a visual overhaul of the PS2 game, plus some modernizations here and there, so this means it’s going to feel like the original, though it’s certainly visually impressive.
Remake aside, there’s something else in the trailer that attracted MGS fans’ attention. A couple of seconds seem to tease the return of Metal Gear Online, a multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.
Metal Gear Online is all about two teams pitted against each other in all sorts of scenarios, including deathmatch and capture the flag. Sounds pretty standard, huh? Well, the players on both teams who had the best score got to become one of the main characters of the game for the next round, coupled with special abilities and gear. There was also another interesting mechanic, if you could call it that: if you got KIA during the round, you could still engage in some good-natured tomfoolery by tapping on walls or going “woooo” straight into the living players’ ears.
MGO was shut down between 2006 and 2007, but who knows, maybe this little tease means it might be brought back for the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater? Time will tell.
