Although it started as a meme and a weird little internet experiment, it somehow became real.

Dinoblade – yes, that Dinoblade – is an upcoming Soulslike action RPG where we once again step into the role of a highly trained warrior wielding a gigantic blade. Except this time, that warrior is… a prehistoric reptile. A Spinosaurus. With a Great Sword. Clenched between its jaws. Fighting other weapon-wielding dinosaurs…

Sounds like a joke? The Steam demo and the Steam release date set for the next year say otherwise. So what exactly is Dinoblade, and is it worth downloading the demo to see what this wild idea has turned into?

What Is Dinoblade Exactly?

Dinoblade is a fast-paced prehistoric game with challenging combat, RPG elements, and a beautifully crafted prehistoric world, where we play as a young Spinosaurus who – due to, let’s say, slightly impractical front limbs – wields a colossal Great Sword right in its jaws.

The story takes us back to prehistoric times, when different dinosaur species ruled the land. But don’t expect mindless beasts roaming around – these creatures are intelligent, tactical, and surprisingly refined when it comes to melee combat. They solve conflicts not with raw instinct, but with strategy… and steel.

At the same time, there’s tragedy brewing in the background. The world is threatened by total extinction, and ancient mysteries rise along with it. Dinosaurs awaken in a hostile new era, and we must uncover whether their species can be saved – or if it’s already too late.

So yes, this is a game about skill and flashy blade work… but it’s also a story about survival and the drama of prehistoric existence, where every step could be your last.

The Prehistoric Soulslike Steam Demo

Even the Steam demo gives a solid taste of what’s coming. We explore diverse landscapes, take down enemies, and learn the basics of combat. From desert canyons and massive caverns to lush meadows and fog-soaked jungles, the world is full of atmospheric, varied environments – each patrolled by powerful Alpha bosses guarding their territory.

Combat is where Dinoblade truly shines. Dodging, timing attacks, chaining strikes, mastering the parry system – everything needs to be learned, practiced, and felt. And yes, the inspiration is clear: this is a dino-powered love letter to Soulslike design. Difficult? Absolutely. Rewarding? Even more so.

How Dinoblade Was Born?

The game comes from the indie team Team Spino LLC – also known simply as Team Spino. What started as a viral animation of a Spinosaurus swinging a sword has evolved into a full-fledged title with cinematic storytelling and intense gameplay. Think Monster Hunter meets Elden Ring meets Horizon Zero Dawn… but with teeth, scales, big swords, and prehistoric swagger.

Final Thoughts

The demo already gives us a feel for the tone, style, and systems this game is building toward. And honestly? It’s a brilliant chance to see just how challenging – and ridiculously satisfying – it can be to swing a great blade as a dinosaur in a world fighting against extinction.

Dinoblade is shaping up to be one of those indie gems worth watching in the coming year. If you’re even slightly curious, download the demo and go hack & slash some prehistoric steel – maybe Dinoblade will be your next favorite Soulslike?
