This is a very interesting development, to say the least, but then again it shows that Funcom might be onto something with their upcoming survival MMO set on the desert planet of Arrakis.
Dune: Awakening isn’t even officially out yet; the game is slated for a June 10, 2025 release. However, nearly 100,000 players are already engaged in all sorts of shenanigans on Arrakis thanks to a Deluxe & Ultimate Edition perk: head start, AKA advanced access. The owners of these versions have been able to play the game since June 5, 2025.
As far as player reviews on Steam are concerned, they are as of now very positive for the most part (state as of June 6, 2025). There were reports on numerous negative reviews, but they mostly pertained to connection and server issues rather than the quality of the actual game.
Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO set in the Dune universe during an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides was never born and the Fremen have mysteriously disappeared. The game blends survival, base building, diplomacy, PvP, and more. The release is planned for June 10, 2025.
