If you’re waiting for the announcement of Elden Ring 2, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. The new game in the series isn’t a sequel, but a co-op roguelike spin-off. Just as unforgiving as the predecessor.
Elden Ring: Nightrein takes you to a universe parallel to the events in the original Elden Ring game. Limveld, to be exact. There you have to explore the land and fight over the course of three days, with nights pitting shrinking the map and pitting you against a powerful boss. If you win, you get to fight on all the way to the third night where you have to fight the Nightlord you chose as your final opponent.
Naturally, you can go solo, but up to three players can team up for the greatest chances of survival. You will be able to choose from eight different characters, each with a unique set of abilities and a powerful Ultimate. Oh, and the realm for you to explore is randomly generated each time (except for the general layout, which is set in stone), so you can expect a fresh challenge in every session.
Nightreign is certainly an interesting take on the franchise. The game releases in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
