An unbeatable boss encounter nobody can git gud for. Elden Ring: Nightreign found the one trick even hardcore players can’t beat. At least until the bug gets fixed.
Ok, so what is actually going on?
ER Nightreign is doing its Everdark Sovereigns thing, upgrading the regular Nightlords to their harder, better, faster, stronger versions. The currently Sove-reigning boss is a beefed up Sentient Pest, a fight which typically involves three creatures, because suffering must continue until morale improves.
The Everdark Sovereign version of the Sentient Pest arrives on July 3, 2025, at 03:00 CEST | 18:00 PDT (July 2) | 10:00 JST.#NIGHTREIGN pic.twitter.com/8twzLyLVEK

You begin with a fight against two huge arthropods (a massive scorpion and a huge moth), and in the Sovereign variant, when you succeed against these, a huge new challenger comes in. it’s a shiny red moth proudly dubbed “Animus, Ascendant Light” and it revives the two freshly dead bugs you just worked so hard to kill, making you fight all three enemies at once. Rude.
However… for the time being it’s quite likely you might not see that second stage at all, because the red moth boss doesn’t come in to do the reviving. Amusingly enough, this bug is hard to deal with in both meanings of the word. The literal, because players can finish defeating the insects, and the metaphorical, because, despite a hotfix, this snarl in the code reportedly hasn’t been fully resolved by the developers.
This state probably will get permanently fixed before too long, but for now be aware you might have to deal with your courageous hunt go awry.
Additionally, several other issues concerning the Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest have been identified, and will be adressed in a future update along with a permanent fix for the current issue.

However! The issues of this particular Everdark Sovereign shouldn’t discourage you from giving Elden Ring Nightreign a chance, because it’s a great game and a fun way to experience a contained, bite-sized chunk of Elden Ring gameplay without committing to dozens of hours of a proper playthrough. And it can be played solo, with two extra friends, and there are plans for a much-desired duos mode.
