Dataminers uncover a new endless ranked mode in Elden Ring: Nightreign and it might be the games most competitive feature yet.
Dataminers have found something interesting in the latest Elden Ring: Nightreign update. A new mode called “Deep of Night.” If the leaked files are accurate, it’s an endless challenge mode with scaling difficulty, random encounters, and ranked matchmaking. It could give Nightreign the long-term staying power some players have been waiting for.
Elden Ring Nightreign Leak: What Is “Deep of Night”?
According to the data, sourced by Scavinjx, this mode drops players into a battlefield where difficulty ramps up the longer you survive. You’ll face increasingly tough opponents in randomized waves. The game describes it as a place where “Victory will increase your rating, burnishing your Depth. The darkness extends unto infinity.”
That rating system might be the real game-changer. Leaks suggest a structure similar to ARMORED CORE VI ranked multiplayer. You move through five “Depths,” each tied to a block of 999 rating points. For example, Depth 2 begins at 1,000, Depth 3 at 2,000, and so on. Once you reach a new Depth, you stay there. No demotions. It’s a one-way climb designed to separate casual sessions from competitive grinds.
Matchmaking and Ranked Tiers
Skill-based matchmaking will match you with players around your current rating. You’ll have to perform well during a promotional phase to move up. If matchmaking takes too long, the system can temporarily widen the pool to include nearby Depths, keeping wait times reasonable.
Some players are already offering advice. If you’re in it for a relaxed experience, don’t push past your comfort zone. Higher Depths mean tougher fights, whether you’re ready for them or not.
Other Datamined Details
The patch files also reference new passive effects. Wylder’s ability seems to trigger blood loss, while Revenant gets a boost to max FP during ability activation. These haven’t appeared in the game yet, but modders are already experimenting with them.
Why This Leak Matters
Nightreign’s last update brought a solid batch of content. We got the Augur boss, two-player expeditions, relic sorting, and a return of the original Everdark Nightlords. Still, the question lingered: what’s the real endgame here?
If “Deep of Night” is the answer, it’s a good one. An endless, ranked mode with matchmaking and progression gives competitive players something to aim for. It adds structure to the chaos and gives high-skill players a reason to stick around.
