FromSoftware finally graced us with a juicy trailer for the long-awaited expansion of 2022’s massive Souls-y experience, Elden Ring. They even gave us the release date, which might be almost as exciting as all the bits of new lore which must have galvanized all the loremasters out there.

First of all, the most important information: the DLC is dropping its glory on us on June 21st, 2024. It’s still a few months off, but that’s not a bad thing, it means you might have time to squeeze in some other big release before it’s Eldin’ time.

Second, the DLC will heavily feature Miquella, you know, the one of “Malenia, Blade of Miquella” fame. It remains to be seen what his part in the story is going to be, but it might be reasonable to assume he won’t be happy the Tarnished offed his sister.

The trailer also reveals the big majestic boss of the DLC, a fellow named Messmer the Impaler. Of course, he won’t be the only one to raise our blood pressure, there will be a host of other big beefy targets, including a brazier-looking giant and quite a few twisted, mutated weirdos that FromSoftware is so good at making.

There even appear to be new weapons coming. The trailer shows the Tarnished unleashing their fists of fury and kicks or rage, as well as and using thrown daggers to stab some people without coming anywhere near melee range. There are also a few more new weapons, but these are the ones that caught our eye the most.

Shadow of the Erdtree is shaping up to be truly a behemoth expansion, with new ways to die, new strings of dispersed lore to weave into an elaborate tapestry, and more open world exploration, and honestly, what more does a FromSoftware fan need to be happy? Well, maybe some stompy mecha, but that base is already covered in another game.

Get your gamepads and reflexes ready for June, because they will be tested!
