Wallpapers and other features are coming to PS4.

The next big update coming to PlayStation 4 is version 4.5, codenamed Sasuke. Starting today it should be deployed to users participating in the beta program. If you are signed up, you should receive soon an email with instructions.

The major feature of this update is external HDD support and it’s worth shouting out: finally. Only this week I had to delete a few games just to make some space for the Ghost Recon Wildlands’ beta and a few other titles – next week I’ll be installing those titles once again. You’ll be able to use USB 3.0 HDDs up to 8TB.

Users will be able to add custom wallpapers to the home menu. “Drop-shadows on text, and the option to dim the Function Area will help keep the system icons and texts on the home screen clearly visible even if the background image you selected is super bright,” we read in the PlayStation blog post.

Both Quick Menu and Notifications are undergoing some UI refreshes. There are other small additions, all described in the note linked above.
