The new Fable game’s been long in the making, but despite all the trailers it’s never been quite clear what the game’s going to be about.
Hijinks, surely, japes and tomfoolery as well, it is a Fable game, but the actual story had been rather vague.
Not so anymore, because during the Xbox Games Showcase we got a declaration of malicious intent issued by Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh to tell us what’s going on in the plot.
Fable XBOX Games Showcase Trailer
The Hero gives a long talk about how the gruesome circumstances she got her powers in before turning to making a point of what she feels about Heroes. Spoiler: nothing fond, as they do things of low importance and irresponsible whimsy. A stance she feels critical off and wants to be the sole hero of the land.
Between her villainous monologue (always welcome in this kind of genre) we see glimpses of cutscenes and cinematic shots of what the gameplay looks like, and all of it looks rather lovely, in the mix of silly and serious that the series’ been good at balancing.
The trailer is also surprisingly potty-mouthed, with more “fucks” than I’d expect from a whimsical heroic adventure.
Fable Release Date
Fable’s release date February 23rd 2027 for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. It was originally supposed to come earlier, but delay was probably cause by the cause of all delays this year: the looming spectre of GTA 6.
