This is the news Final Fantasy Xbox fans have been waiting for — Square Enix has officially confirmed that FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Intergrade Xbox version is coming to Xbox Series X|S this winter, and FINAL FANTASY XVI is already available on the platform.
After years of PlayStation exclusivity, the legendary JRPG series is finally opening its doors to the green side. Xbox is no longer getting leftovers — the JRPG Xbox debut is behind us, and what’s next is full-fledged support from Japanese gaming giants.
FF16 Series S — How Does It Hold Up?
The release of Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox marks a major milestone, especially for Xbox Series S owners wondering how the game runs on Microsoft’s smaller next-gen console. Early tests show that FF16 Series S may fall a bit short compared to the PS5 version, particularly in terms of resolution and frame rate.

Still, we’re looking at a visually rich next-gen RPG with cinematic storytelling and high-octane combat. While Series S|X users might have to accept a few technical compromises, loading times are short, performance is stable, and future patches could boost visuals and performance even further.

While Square Enix hasn’t yet shared technical specs for the Series S version, based on the PS5 and PC builds, we can expect a targeted 30 FPS at 1080p–1440p on Series S, and a performance mode on Series X. There’s no word yet on Game Pass, but achievements, cloud saves, and full Xbox Store integration are pretty much a given.
Square Enix Ports Are Back On Xbox
For years, mainline Final Fantasy entries were mostly confined to PlayStation. But lately, we’ve seen a shift in strategy — Square Enix ports are finally making their way back to Xbox. And that’s a big deal for players who’ve long felt left out of the JRPG scene.
A New Chapter For Xbox Players
Let’s not forget — the first major Final Fantasy title to hit a Microsoft console was Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360. After that, the franchise gravitated back to Sony platforms — until now. With FF16 Series S already out and FF7 Remake Intergrade Xbox launching this winter, it’s clear the tide is turning.
We still don’t have an exact release date or confirmation on whether FF7 Remake will hit Game Pass — but considering Microsoft’s recent moves, there’s reason to be hopeful.
One thing’s for sure: the green camp is no longer being left behind. The Final Fantasy Xbox journey is just getting started — and it’s shaping up to be one fans won’t want to miss.
