When do Gears of War: E-Day reviews go live?
According to Insider Gaming, the Gears of War: E-Day review embargo ends Thursday, October 1 at 6:00 AM PT. That translates to 9:00 AM ET, 2:00 PM BST and 3:00 PM CEST.
The timing is particularly useful for anyone still deciding between waiting for the standard launch and jumping into Premium Early Access. The first wave of reviews should, according to the report, be available before early players can start the campaign.
It is still worth keeping the word reportedly attached to that embargo time. Xbox has published detailed launch and pre-install timings, but the review embargo itself has not been announced through the official Gears of War or Xbox channels.
Reviews arrive shortly before Early Access
Official Xbox information says pre-installation begins on September 29 at 8:00 AM PT / 15:00 UTC across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. Premium Edition players can then begin playing on October 1 at the same 8:00 AM PT / 15:00 UTC time.
The full worldwide release follows on October 6 at 8:00 AM PT / 15:00 UTC. Gears of War: E-Day is launching for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam, and is also coming to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on release day.
That creates a very small but meaningful review window for Premium buyers. If the embargo timing is accurate, there should be enough time to skim the first scores, read a few campaign verdicts and see how critics respond to the return of Marcus and Dom before deciding whether five-day Early Access is worth it.
What will reviewers be judging?
E-Day is not Gears 6. Instead, The Coalition is rewinding the series by fourteen years and putting players in the middle of the Locust Horde’s first attack on Sera. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are at the center again, this time as younger soldiers experiencing enemies that the world does not yet understand.
The studio has rebuilt the game around Unreal Engine 5 while keeping the series’ cover-shooter identity. Movement has been expanded with jumping, sliding, more flexible vaulting and increased verticality, while the campaign supports solo play, two-player split-screen on console and up to four players online.
Multiplayer is another big part of the review picture. Horde Siege expands the classic PvE formula into a 12-player setup built around three four-player squads, while Versus returns with focused 4v4 PvP, Ranked and Social playlists. The big question for reviews, then, is broader than whether the campaign works. E-Day has to prove that its modernized movement, co-op, Horde and competitive multiplayer still feel unmistakably like Gears.
