Word is spreading that Grand Theft Auto VI could run at a smooth 60 frames per second on the upcoming PS5 Pro, with Sony working directly with Rockstar.

If that’s accurate, we might even see a special console bundle drop with the game. That would be big news for anyone tired of sluggish frame rates in Rockstar’s open-world titles.

Leak Claims 60 FPS, Sony Tech Support, and a 2026 Goal

The leak comes from @DetectiveSeeds on X , who’s had a few correct predictions before, even if not all of them aged well. According to them, GTA 6 is already running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro with several visual presets, and Rockstar is targeting May 2026 for final optimization.

One of the more surprising claims is that Sony engineers are actively helping Rockstar tweak the game using updated in-house tools. A newer version of PSSR, Sony’s proprietary upscaling tech, is apparently in play and limited to the Pro hardware.

This partnership might not stop with GTA 6. The same tech assistance could be showing up in other Rockstar projects, possibly even that long-whispered 60 FPS update for Red Dead Redemption 2. Timing-wise, it fits the rumored PS5 Pro software rollout with FSR 4.0 next year.

Why This Would Matter for Rockstar and Sony

If this all checks out, it would be the first time Rockstar ships a console release running at 60 FPS straight away. Their past titles like GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all capped out at 30 FPS, even on more powerful versions of those consoles.

PlayStation 5 Pro Console - Launch Trailer

That first GTA 6 trailer ran at 30 FPS on standard PS5, so hitting 60 on Pro would mark a serious upgrade. If Sony really is backing this effort, you can bet they’ll be pushing hard with bundles to get this in front of buyers.

Not Everyone Is Sold

Some fans aren’t convinced. Rockstar games lean heavily on CPU, thanks to things like massive crowds, dynamic systems, and layered AI. The PS5 Pro’s CPU bump is only around 10 percent, which doesn’t scream huge performance leap.

Frame generation and FSR 4.0 might improve things, but they’re not guaranteed fixes. Going from 30 to 60 FPS without introducing latency or visual glitches is tough. Tools like these sound great in theory, but every game engine behaves differently. Rockstar’s engine in particular has never been known for running light.

Then there’s the track record of @DetectiveSeeds. While they’ve had some hits, they’ve also missed before, like calling a Gears of War Collection multiplayer that never showed up and dropping the ball on Oblivion Remastered predictions. It’s reason enough for people to stay cautious.

And let’s not kid ourselves. Getting GTA 6 to 60 FPS on console would be massive, but it won’t be easy. Rockstar’s tech stack is demanding. Red Dead Redemption 2 can still crush mid-tier PCs. So while expectations are sky-high, what matters is how well this stuff actually works when the time comes.

Keep Expectations in Check

If this turns out to be real, GTA 6 could be the smoothest experience Rockstar has ever put on a console, with Sony playing an active role and bundles likely in the mix. But until we hear it from Rockstar or Sony themselves, it’s just chatter.

It’s okay to hope for 60 FPS. Just don’t rush to lock in a preorder until we see how real this actually is.
