Hey, do you remember being young in the 2000s? Then you might find your knees weak when you learn that Guild Wars, the original one, is getting a big beefy update for its twentieth anniversary. Yes, 2005 was 20 years ago. So sorry you had to be reminded this way. Let’s make you feel old with a top-tier MMO nostalgia.

Guild Wars Reforged – What’s New?

Guild Wars Reforged was recently announced, with a very close release date: December 3rd. Yes, this year. More games should be announced two weeks from launch. What does GW Reforged do that’s so special, anyway? Let’s take a look.

Guild Wars Reforged Announcement Trailer

First of all, the base game and its three expansions will be neatly bundled up for a $19.99. That is, unless you had purchased one of the in the past, in which case you will get them all when Reforged launches. As before, GW will not slap any subscription fees on you after the initial purchase.

Reforged is also Steam Deck verified, gets modern controller support, and suitable UI adjustments. Graphics are getting a touch-up as well, the visual overhaul including lighting upgrades, ambient occlusion, texture boost, the usual. Finally, there are also some UX improvements, like a new quest tracking system.

It’s great to see such attention given to a classic which once hoped to challenge World of Warcraft and lived to get a very successful sequel in GW2. It’s great opportunity to perhaps get into a game you’d never had a chance to try back in the day, and, if you’ve been a player all this time: a well-deserved new coat of form and function to make the legacy MMO easily playable into the future.

Guild Wars Reforged goes live on December 3, 2025, get ready.
