After years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally going hands-on. Team Cherry’s long-anticipated follow-up to Hollow Knight will have a public demo at Gamescom 2025, playable on both PC and the ROG Xbox Ally X.

If you’ve been following this game since its first reveal, this is the most concrete sign yet that the 2025 release window is real.

Hollow Knight Silksong Gamescom

Microsoft confirmed the demo in a recent Xbox Wire post highlighting their full Gamescom lineup. Silksong will be featured at the Xbox booth alongside a wide selection of games from Xbox Game Studios and third-party partners. This is the first time the public will be able to try Silksong directly and also the first hands-on with the new ROG Xbox Ally X.

What Else Is Playable at Gamescom

The Xbox booth will include a range of playable titles across genres and platforms. Highlights include:

It’s a packed schedule with something for nearly every type of player.

A Long Wait Finally Pays Off

It’s been more than six years since Silksong was announced. For much of that time, updates were scarce. That changed in January 2025 when Team Cherry confirmed that development was active and the game would release. Then, during the Xbox Showcase in June, Microsoft’s Sarah Bond stated that Silksong is scheduled to launch later this year.

The Gamescom demo makes that timeline feel credible. For many fans, seeing the game in action will do more to ease doubts than any press release.

Full Platform Lineup and Game Pass Support

When it launches, Silksong will be available on a wide range of platforms:

  • Consoles: Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2
  • Handheld: ROG Xbox Ally X
  • PC: Windows

It’ll also be included on Xbox Game Pass from day one, which means subscribers can play it without buying the full game.

Gamescom Details and How to Watch Remotely

Gamescom 2025 takes place in Cologne from August 20 to August 24. If you’re not attending in person, Xbox will host a two-day broadcast on August 20 and 21, streaming live on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.

Microsoft’s lineup puts a clear spotlight on indie titles, and Silksong is leading that charge. Whether you’re attending or watching from home, it’s the best look yet at one of the most anticipated indie games of the decade.
