Team Cherry confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will not be a launch title for Xbox Ally X. Here’s what we know!

Ever since the highly anticipated Silksong appeared at the Xbox Game Showcase as part of the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally announcement, the fan community has been going wild over the news.

It turns out, however, that this promising Metroidvania was just a pretext to showcase the handheld gaming capabilities, with no direct connection to the console’s launch lineup. So, what is the release plan for both of them?

Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Not Be a Launch Title for Xbox Ally X

Launch News: What to Expect

As Team Cherry assured on Discord, Silksong release is set to happen sometime before the 2025 holiday season. As for Xbox Ally X, the official announcement at the Xbox event confirms the release date for the holiday season, but recent reports suggest the console might launch in October.

No wonder many fans were expecting Silksong as a Hollow Knight launch title for Xbox, especially since it appeared on the console’s screen multiple times during the recent showcase.

Team Cherry’s Explanation

The massive confusion began when Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned that Silksong would be “available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year.” However, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s marketing manager, corrected that information on Discord, “I confirmed before holiday – we are not tied to a console release.”

Fan Hype

Given that Silksong was initially revealed in 2019, it’s understandable fans of the indie hit are eagerly awaiting its release. For now, it seems that the game will launch sometime after or before the Xbox handheld release.

“The best thing to do is ignore Silksong and not think about it until it comes out, that makes me way more hype for the game when I’m reminded of how great Hollow Knight was”, says user rendumguy on r/Games.

Statements like this suggest fans are so eager for information about the game’s release that they’re ready to jump to any conclusions. No wonder, as Team Cherry has been keeping Silksong in development limbo for half a decade now!

Will Silksong join the Xbox Ally X games launch lineup?

While the game won’t be one of the launch titles for the Xbox Ally, Microsoft and ASUS used Silksong to showcase the new handheld console’s capabilities.

That means Team Cherry may be planning to release the title on as many platforms as possible. Nevertheless, after seeing the game’s progress at the Xbox Games Showcase, fans finally have a solid release window to look forward to.

That’s quite a change for the fan community, who have been watching Silksong appear and disappear from the spotlight for the past five years.

According to official sources, the Hollow Knight sequel will launch sometime during the holiday season of 2025 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Game Pass. It will also be available on the brand-new Xbox Ally once it releases!
