In case you were worried that Jurassic Park: Survival is lingering in development hell, it seems that its production is on the right track.
The developers, Saber Interactive, have released a behind-the-scenes video which will surely re-ignite the interest fans of the Jurassic Park/World franchise have in the upcoming game.
Jurassic Park: Survival has been officially unveiled back in December 2023 during The Game Awards gala. What we got back then was a CGI trailer also featuring some pre-alpha gameplay footage. Nothing much happened since then, except for an IGN update, leading many to believe that the game has been quietly cancelled or is in development hell like, say, Star Wars: Eclipse.
The new video, however, while still doesn’t really show any actual gameplay, proves that the game is still being worked on, though its announcement back at TGA 2023 might have been a bit premature.
What is Jurassic Park: Survival, anyway?
Jurassic Park: Survival is an upcoming action-adventure game where you play as Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist left stranded on Isla Nublar, one day after the events of the original film. Gameplay-wise, it is to feature a mix of exploration, stealth, and some puzzle-solving. Think Alien: Isolation, but with dinosaurs instead.
By the way, this one bears no relation to the game of the same title cancelled in 2001.
What information did the Saber update bring?
We’ve seen that the developers are paying incredible attention to details when it comes both to the setting and the real star of the game: the dinosaurs. The former is to be a mixture of locations known from the film and new ones. The latter? Well, there’s a chance that instead of monsters to avoid/kill we’ll get dinos which behave like actual animals…which obviously can and will totally kill us when given the chance.
The character of Dr. Maya Joshi is played by Payal Mistry, who also performed motion capture.
There are also some bits of gameplay mixed in with the interviews with people working on Jurassic Park: Survival, though you can tell it’s still a very early version.
Anyways, Alien: Isolation vibes are strong here. What about Jurassic Park: Trespasser, though? Generally seen as a massive failure, this oldie was truly ahead of its time, even if far too ambitious considering the state of gaming technology in the 90s. Will the game feel like Trespasser done right? Well, maybe?
When will Jurassic Park: Survival be released?
Unfortunately, there’s no release date set. The game must’ve been in production for at least three years and it doesn’t seem like it’s getting released anytime soon, given that we’re getting these updates super rarely. Who knows, though – maybe we’ll get it in late 2026 or 2027 (which sounds more reasonable)?
The game will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
