Exciting news for those who were waiting for Jurassic World Evolution 3 – we just got a sneak peek at the game’s breeding and genetics systems.
A New Feature Focus Trailer from JWE 3
Frontier Developments, developers who created a number of critically acclaimed management simulation games, including Planet Zooand Planet Coaster, shared a short video related to their upcoming game from the Jurassic World Evolution franchise.
The video in question focuses on dinosaur genetics and breeding mechanics, giving players a better idea about various gameplay systems that will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining a successful dinosaur park.
Jurassic World Evolution 3 Breeding Explained
The video about the new mechanics is just over 90 seconds long and doesn’t dive too deep into explaining how breeding in JWE 3 will work in detail. It does, however, give us some crumbles that we can try to piece together to get a bigger picture.
As seen in the video, to start breeding, dinosaurs will need nests to lay their eggs, which means you’ll have to engage with the new dino nest system. You’ll have to carefully choose the place for the nest – preferably away from guests and other dinosaurs – and ensure your dinos are happy, healthy, and feel comfortable. You’ll also have to monitor their fertility levels and other needs.
Once you’ve got a compatible pair of male and female dinosaurs ready to procreate and a free scientist, you can run the breeding program. As a result, you’ll eventually get a new baby dinosaur to take care of. As explained in the video, the baby will be able to inherit certain properties, such as appearance and behaviors, from its parents, thanks to the existence of the gene system. It may even see the reappearance of genes that were lying dormant in the family’s DNA.
Playing around with gene traits and finding the best and most interesting combinations will certainly be one of the main concerns when maintaining a dinosaur park. The system can’t be completely neglected, as not all genes will be worth passing on and some may negatively affect herd dynamics of the entire species, so you’ll have to actively try to prevent the breeding of the less promising dinos, which adds an extra layer of strategy and micromanagement to the game – something we didn’t have in previous JWE games.
If you’re worried that your velociraptors’ breeding might get out of control and they’ll eventually try to escape the park and run amok, don’t worry – just remove their nests to foil their nefarious plans.
