Redemption Road Games has announced that the release of their ambitious time-travel shooter strategy game, Kingmakers, has been delayed indefinitely.
In a statement posted on X and Steam, the developers explained that they need “more time before we feel good about charging money for it”. They also emphasized their commitment to not cutting features just to rush the release.
Kingmakers Delay Reasons
Kingmakers release date was scheduled on October 8, but now we know it’s not going to happen. Redemption Road Games in their statement claimed that:
“[…] it’s an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game, and we don’t want to cut any planned features, for the sake of getting it out the door earlier. Our goal, from the start, has been to create something that’s nothing like anything else on the market, in terms of gameplay, scale, scope, and interactivity.”

They also pointed out that the game runs at true 60fps on mid-range PC’s without fake frames, which truly emphasizes the developers’ care for the game’s scale and performance optimization. Kingmakers is also about details, such as tens of thousands of AI soldiers, drop-in/drop-out four-player co-op, set across medieval landscapes and fully destructible environments. The developers also mentioned the huge map with freedom of exploring for each player and massive battles.
According to the studio, the project pushes Unreal Engine 4 to its absolute limits, with each mission unfolding on vast maps that emphasize realistic physics and deep interactivity. Redemption Road Games also stated that “We are an 80% engineering team, who got into this business to push technological barriers”.
Hype, Trailers, and a Movie Deal
What makes Kingmakers stand out is undoubtedly its unique concept, combining modern firearms with medieval warfare. The project has already attracted widespread attention, even securing a movie adaptation before its official release. Early trailers generated major hype, with fans impressed by the level of detail and originality of the concept, and eagerly anticipating the planned October 8 launch.
The movie adaptation is being produced through a partnership between publisher tinyBuild and Story Kitchen, which shows that the world of this upcoming title goes far beyond gaming. Redemption Road Games has promised a half-hour gameplay deep dive, and the community is eager to see how the project’s game development and progresses and whether it will live up to expectations.
Final Thoughts
Kingmakers early access delay is certainly not the best news for players who have been eagerly awaiting its release, but it also means the team can dedicate more time to the polish phase, ensuring the game is released in a polished and optimized state. Based on the technical details shared by the developers, as well as the upcoming trailer, Kingmakers is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the year.
