Fans of DC and Lego will surely remember the opening night of Gamescom 2025 as one of the best events of the year!
TT Games, together with Warner Bros. Games, presented the latest game set in the iconic world of Lego bricks – Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. This title will allow us to experience the story known from the Dark Knight film trilogy, familiar games from the universe, comics, and animated series, all set in an open world in Gotham City.
Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, Joker, Penguin, and Many More!
From statements by Jim Lee, CCO of DC, we learned what to expect from the new Batman instalment. We’ll step into the shoes of Bruce Wayne, experiencing the origin story and events from Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. The trailer itself showcased many scenes known from the film series, classic moments, and perhaps the most famous line from the 2010s – “Why so serious.”
The trailer also highlighted that the combat system is very similar to what we know from games like Batman: Arkham Origins, Batman: Arkham City, and Batman: Arkham Asylum. If you’re interested why Arkham Trilogy is one of the greatest super hero games series check out this article! There’s also a stylistic approach drawing from comic bubbles used in combat sections. Another fantastic piece of news for every DC universe fan is the fact that Gotham City will be fully explorable due to the open-world setting.
Another novelty we learned about at Gamescom is the introduction of difficulty levels – none of the previous Lego games had such a system. TT Games is focusing on the HUB/Open-World setting known from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, evolving known systems but also adding new ones – it’s a great sign that the studio is unafraid to experiment, step out of their comfort zone, and wants to deliver the best experience in the world of bricks!
The Original Lego Batman – Is It Worth Checking Out Right Now?
I’ll be honest with you – it’s hard for me to be objective about this. The original LEGO Batman is a title where I spent an incredible number of hours as a kid – and had a fantastic time. Graphically, it may differ from what the industry has accustomed us to in recent years, but the jokes, missions, puzzles, and familiar locations hold up really well. The fact that the game allows us to play through the story twice, first as superheroes and then as villains from Arkham, was a unique experience for me.
Additionally, TT has prepared an excellent deal for those wanting to dive into the previous three Lego Batman titles, releasing the LEGO Batman Trilogy. I encourage you to check out and play these titles, offering countless hours of local co-op fun!
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be available on platforms like Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The exact release date has not been announced yet, but we know the game is set to release in 2026. So keep an eye on the sky for the bat signal, as it may appear soon…
