The upcoming Lies of P DLC will introduce difficulty options! What can we expect from this groundbreaking change?
Lies of P: Overture will launch this summer to let its players explore the secrets of the city of Krat before the Puppet Frenzy massacre. Since it’s a souls-like video game revolving around an alternative Pinocchio story, fans can prepare for a whole bunch of brand-new content! Including new difficulty settings and accessibility features to encourage an even wider audience to play the game.
Why Do Difficulty Options Matter?
Not so long ago, Director Choi Ji-Won believed that souls-like titles shouldn’t provide difficulty options. As he said: “No, you won’t find difficulty options in Lies of P. We think souls-like games shouldn’t have them”.
As it turns out, Neowiz changed its stance by introducing such gameplay details in the latest updates regarding the base game and its upcoming DLC, Overture.
But why exactly does such a change matter? According to his latest statement: “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game. We have a lot of feedback from customers and our developers.
So by making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This broadens the base.” As we can see, this shift will make the game more accessible to a broader range of players while maintaining its unique identity!
Accessibility Improvements
So what kind of improvements can we expect? According to the latest game news, the base game and Overture will feature two gameplay modes, Butterfly’s Guidance and Awakened Puppet. For now, we can expect the former to offer a less demanding experience. Meanwhile, the latter may be more challenging. Moreover, the current default mode will be now called Legendary Stalker.
This variety of gameplay modes will let a broader audience enjoy the game according to their preferences. While fans of souls-like titles love to experience truly punishing adventures, newcomers to the genre may now feel more encouraged to explore this type of gameplay.
What Fans Say
As we can see on the game’s subreddit, fan reactions to the new changes vary. According to one player: “Personally, I’d rather there not be difficulty options. One difficulty means game is fine tuned.” The other says: “Difficulty options are a bad and lazy way to go about it. Players have no clue what they’re choosing as they haven’t played the game yet. It also fractures the community.”
“Difficulty options will ruin Overture!” Uh, no?

But not everyone criticize these improvements. One player claims: “This shouldn’t even be a conversation, WHO FING CARES!?!?!?. if they don’t force me to lower the difficulty it’s literally not affecting me. I feel like people just want bragging rights, which is dumb because you would still have them by beating the game on the hardest difficulty.
Would doom be a better game if you only played on hardcore (not counting nightmare or ultra nightmare, they are supposed to be unfair and unblanced) no it wouldn’t and less people would have played it. This is such a nothing issue im sick of seeing it as a souls fan seriously.”
However, a massive share of the community still views the introduction of difficulty options as a step in the wrong direction. While it’s too early to predict the final result, the upcoming release already sparked many heated discussions. The DLC will launch this summer, so soon, we’ll see whether this bold change turns out well!
