Mafia: The Old Country – 9 Minutes of Stealth, Gunplay, and Sicilian Vibes Revealed

Although the Mafia 2025 trailer launched a month ago, Hangar 13 (the game’s developer) hasn’t shared much regarding Mafia: The Old Country gameplay. Until now, IGN has just dropped a 9-minute video showcasing chunks of the Villa mission in the game’s Chapter 5.

Let’s start with the fact that the brand-new installment is a Mafia prequel, so it presents a story set before the events of the previous games in the series. Although the developers removed some scenes to avoid spoilers, the footage highlights the game’s impressive visuals, suggesting it was recorded on PlayStation 5.

Stealth and Open Combat in Mafia: The Old Country

The first thing that catches the eye in the gameplay video of The Old Country is the breathtaking view of 1900s Sicily. We can see our playable hero receiving instructions for a new mission, which he can complete in any way the player wants – in open combat or using stealth mechanics. And while the Mafia stealth combat resembles that of the Uncharted series, the gunplay and scenic ride through the Italian countryside promise a unique experience!

Open World in Mafia: The Old Country

Another novelty is the departure from the open-world concept towards a more story-driven gameplay enriched with cinematic sequences. Since the title unravels the origins of the Mafia from previous games (and how it began in the United States), the developers opt for a more linear model of presenting the story.

Fans Reaction

Despite all these promising features, the fanbase has already noticed some issues in the recently released video. One of the main ones is the footsteps sounding a bit like a cow eating grass, which can be rather annoying in the long run. Hopefully, the developers will address this and similar matters before the grand release day!

Mafia: The Old Country launches August 8 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Given that IGN has exclusive access to newly released content and info from the developer, you can expect more news about this exciting release as part of their Mafia Mondays month-long cover story for July. Suddenly, Mondays are the most anticipated day of the week!
