As the Spooky season is in full swing, the Grand Hub of Monster Hunter Wilds has transformed again for the next three weeks or so with a new Festival of Accord, and there is a lot good stuff to play Halloween dress-up with.
The new seasonal event (running from October 22nd to November 12th) is called Dreamspell, but kudos to anybody who could dream peacefully watched over by spooky NPCs, haunted puppets, ominous moon, and Erik’s suspiciously fitting vampire costume. Perhaps that’s where the “spell” part is coming in.
Aside from the set dressing, which might be the coolest transformation of the Hub yet, there is a host of new stuff to do and get.
New gear:
AT Nu Udra
The flaming, oily octopus joins the ranks of Rey Dau and Uth Duna as the next monster to receive and arch-tempered variant. Like the predecessors, the beast presents a much harder fight thanks to new tricks up its numerous sleeves. Especially the fire aura and combustible oil spill have turned many a hunter extra crispy, with instant delivery to the nearest camp.
Should you prevail, it will yield the materials for the Nu Udra Gamma set, which is a straight upgrade over the default Nu Udra armor set not just in appearance, but also in function thanks to a powerful array of skills, including the helmet stuffed with Burst 3 and gloves bringing Resentment 3.
To craft the gamma sets (both hunter sets and Palico equipment) you will need Nu Udra Certificates γ, available through Event Quest “Be Cursed, Ye Shadowy Flame”. If you want to build everything they are needed for, you’ll need 19 of them: 2×5 for all Hunter sets; 3 for Palico set; 3 for Fury 3 charm; 3 for Descent 3 charm. That’s a lot of octopus hunting ahead of you!
Ah, by the way: you need to be Hunter Rank 100 for the quest to unlock.
Harvest set
The pumpkin-headed set returns with its companions, ghostly Palico set. And all you need to do to get it is do the Hirabami Harvest event quest a few times. Grab some Gracium while you’re at it, you’ll need it.
Gelidron armor
You know Gelidrons, the dopey huge salamanders from Oilwell Basin? Now you can wear them! Well, sort of. The armor is only supposed to just look like them, and it succeeds. You get a dopey helmet and a “backpack” to make you look like a headless cadaver piloted by a clingy salamander.
You need to do the “That won’t faze me!” event quest to get the materials for it. Be careful, it features a tempered Gypceros!
Dreamwalker Armor
By collecting Dreamspell Tickets from login bonuses and limited bounties, you’ll also get to make the Dreamwalker sets for your Hunter and your Palico. The festival armor tends to be flashy, but having an option to get a powerful flame for a head of hard to beat. Start planning your Dead Cells virtual cosplays, you won’t get a better option.
New shades
Finally, you can also craft Aviator Shades and Kitten shades. You’ll need Dreamspell Catalogue for that, like for the Gelidron set.
Other fun stuff:
- Burn in Blackest Hell: a challenge quest for special Nu Udra pendant-type accessory
- New Seikret decoration: turn your faithful mount into a haunter doll
- New costumes for Alma and Erik
- New options for the Hunter Profile: nameplate, background, pose, titles.
- New decorations for your pop-up camps
- New pendants
- New BGM options
- New stickers
- New barrel bowling theme
- New seasonal meal
Caveat: some options require purchasing a DLC to keep after the event or access in the first place. You can get them all in one swoop via the Dreamspell DLC Pack on Steam, for example.
Dreamspell is chock-full of new visual and mechanical customization options, and the new AT monster is very fun to fight, almost relaxing compared to the Omega Planetes fights.
