It looks like we finally have a real release date for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection and it didn’t come from a press release or trailer.
It slipped out through an unlisted update on the Xbox mobile app, briefly showing a date before vanishing. Classic slip-up. But screenshots made it online before the change.
Mortal Combat Legacy Kollection: The Leak That Sparked It All
On July 27, fans browsing the Xbox app spotted the Legacy Kollection with a listed release date of September 29, 2025. Depending on your region, it could end up being September 30. The listing disappeared within 24 hours, but not before @Dynasty1031 shared screenshots on X, and Game Rant confirmed the date was live on iOS.

As expected, the desktop Xbox store never showed a release date. Just another quiet leak, just loud enough to stir the pot.
Now the spotlight turns to Evo USA, happening August 1 to 3 in Las Vegas. If there’s going to be an official announcement, that’s the smart bet. With the leak pointing to late September and Digital Eclipse previously teasing a 2025 window, the timing checks out.
What You’re Getting in the Legacy Kollection
Legacy Kollection isn’t just a bundle of ROMs slapped together. Digital Eclipse is putting together a full-featured package. Confirmed games:
- Mortal Kombat
- Mortal Kombat II
- Mortal Kombat 3
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
- Mortal Kombat 4
The Kollection will include multiple console ports, covering classic systems like SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega 32X, and Game Boy Advance. Some of these haven’t been seen in years, and Digital Eclipse hinted at even more surprises still under wraps.
Bonus Features That Go Beyond the Fights
The Kollection doesn’t stop at gameplay. It’s also packing features for fans of the franchise’s lore and legacy.
- Online Play includes rollback netcode for smooth, responsive matches no matter where your opponent lives.
- No More Secrets Mode lets you unlock hidden characters, tweak settings, and access dev menus with a single click.
- An Interactive Documentary includes interviews featuring Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, John Vogel, and more.
- Timeline and Lore Archive explores the full arcade-era Mortal Kombat story from Earthrealm to Edenia, with detailed character histories.
This is the kind of stuff hardcore fans have been asking for, and it feels like a time capsule.
Platforms, Size, and Specs
Legacy Kollection is not console exclusive and is coming to:
- PlayStation 4 and 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
The Xbox listing also showed the game will take up 16 GB, which is very reasonable given everything being packed in.
Why It Matters
We’ve seen retro collections before, but this one feels different. Digital Eclipse is treating Mortal Kombat like a piece of game history that deserves respect. The gameplay matters, sure, but so does everything around it. The secrets, the storylines, the characters, the versions that shaped players growing up. And don’t forget – Mortal Kombat 2 is getting its film adaptation very soon!
The rumored September 30 launch gives us just enough time to get excited, cautious, and maybe ready to preorder if Evo confirms what this leak just teased.
