Far Cry. It’s been rather quiet about the series recently, what with Ubisoft focusing most of its power on Assassin’s Creed and addressing rumors about acquisition.

Not all is lost, however, because it will get a TV show, and in a format too rarely seen for adaptations.

Far Cry TV Series in the Works at FX!

A Far Cry TV series was ordered by FX and it will be streamed on Hulu in the US, while the rest of the world will see it on Disney+. Much like the source material it will be aiming for being an anthology of season-length stories sharing a theme rather than the cast and setting.

What’s particularly interesting, are the people attached to the project

The first is Rob Mac, known for co-creating It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and producing Welcome to Wrexham. He also starred in both series, and the official release from Ubisoft states he will have an acting role in Far Cry as well. The other major name who will be working on the show is Noah Hawley, who previously delivered Fargo, and, most recently, Alien: Earth.

It appears that the FX adaptation is in good hands with experience in genre work

One wonders how well the show will handle Far Cry’s largely villain-driven narratives. After all, the thing most people remember from any game isn’t the protagonist, but the usually larger-than-life villain who gives us, the players, a reason to go on dozens of hours of explosively chaotic adventures

The Ubisoft TV anthology of Far Cry stories is hardly the first foray the French publisher has made into non-game media. The animated adaptation of Splinter Cell recently made some buzz (shame it was a game adaptation, rather than a new playable SC), and two years ago Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix featured a bunch of characters from Ubisoft-licensed games. Ubisoft certainly has more luck with the game-to-TV trend than it does with the game-to-cinema one.

So far nothing is known regarding the possible premiere of the Far Cry series, on Hulu or otherwise, but as ever, we’ll be keeping up eyes on the topic.
