Bethesda has a major reason to rejoice. Their remaster of a cult RPG classic, originally released in 2006, turned out to be a huge success, with over 4 million players either returning to Cyrodiil or visiting it for the first time.

The thing it’s hard to tell how many copies were bought and how many players tried the game via Game Pass, but it’s a massive win for Bethesda nonetheless. Only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows surpassed it.

In case you’re unfamiliar with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, it’s an overhaul of the 2006 classic, featuring visuals built up from scratch using Unreal Engine 5, plenty of quality-of-life improvements, and the original expansions – Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles, the latter being a fan favorite – also included in the package, in addition to other upgrades. The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

The success of Oblivion Remastered surely fuels theories that more Bethesda classics might receive a similar treatment. Who knows, maybe Fallout 3 Remastered is imminent?
