Are nautical games the Battle Royale of 2018? Is this what the world will be like now?
Maybe. Either way, a game grimly titled Maelstrom is slowly wrapping up its successful Kickstarter campaign and set sails for the murky waters of Steam Early Access, with expected arrival on April 11th.
The game is set in a world where land is so scarce that any war for it has to be waged on water, and each of the three factions: Humans, Dwarves, and Orcs has something special about their approach to naval matters, for instance dwarven ships are hardy, but sluggish, while humans favour broadside volleys over good distance and getting out of range fast.
As an added twist there will be sea monsters in the contested waters, and the longer your battles will last, the more they’ll notice your actions, which given their size is likely a bad idea.
