The gaming world is truly unique. While more and more companies are trying to create successful digital card brands based on their well-known AAA IPs, to mention only Blizzard, CD Project Red and Bethesda, a recently announced project goes the other way. Behold, the mother of all trading card games is going big-budget.

Magic: the Gathering RPG will be a fully fledged, free-to-play MMO developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment. We will take on a role of a Planeswalker, a mage who will battle creatures and meet powerful beings that shape the face of the multiverse of Magic: the Gathering.

“It’s Magic: The Gathering like you’ve never experienced before,” said Bryan Huang, CEO of Perfect World Entertainment. It certainly will be interesting to see how the worlds and characters created for the purpose of a fantasy battle card game will translate into a fully-shaped world on PCs and consoles.
