Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X just got a massive update. To further emphasize the importance of the changes, the game got rebranded as well; meet Rainbow Six Siege X.
Dual Front – A New 6v6 Game Mode
Starting from the most exciting news, the latest R6 update brought us a new game mode known as Dual Front, allowing players to compete on the largest map in Siege in a way that was never seen before in this game.
As opposed to the usual gameplay formula in Siege, where one team plays the role of the attacker while the other one must focus on defense, Dual Front creates a new environment where both teams must attack and defend at the same time. The goal is to sabotage a series of enemy targets, which somewhat resembles MOBA gameplay. And, just like in MOBA games, you have unlimited respawns.
Dual Front offers incomparably more dynamic gameplay where you must fulfill both roles on the battlefield, improvise as you go, and adapt to the situation on the fly. This, combined with the fact that there are 6 players per team as opposed to the usual 5 makes this mode a bit more chaotic, unpredictable, and fun, but also puts more emphasis on coordinated play and teamwork.
Improved Rappel Mechanics and Hot Breach Meta
Rappel mechanics received an important update as well, making it more dynamic and fluid. First of all, from now on, you’ll be able to sprint while rappelling. You’re no longer a sitting duck when climbing on the walls; you’re still quite vulnerable but you can also be more unpredictable and surprise the opponents.
A second important change is related to swinging; in Siege X, swinging is always available. In old Siege, swinging was only possible when there was a Breach Charge placed on the window. Why is this important? Because it completely changes hot breaching in Siege and makes it a tactic that’s actually worth being used now.
To hot breach in old Siege, you had to place a Breach Charge on the window, start swinging, detonate the charge while swinging, and then hop inside the building. It was slow, clunky, and made you vulnerable.
In Siege X you don’t need Breach Charges to swing, which means you can immediately start swinging and break the barricade during the swing as you approach the window. It works absolutely fantastic with Operators that have abilities related to breaking in, such as Sledge, Zofia, and Buck.
Visual Overhaul
Ubisoft’s tactical FPS received some visual upgrades as well. Colors and contrasts were improved, increasing the clarity and readability of the maps.
On release, five maps were overhauled; the rest will receive an update at a later date.
Rainbow Six Siege X Release – Free to Play on All Platforms
Siege X is now free to play on all platforms.
If you owned a copy of Rainbow Six Siege before, you’ll keep everything you had access to and you’ll get some extra Veteran freebies.
If you’re a new player, you can start playing without spending a dime. There is a catch, though; as a free player, your options will be limited.
