First in the series of “it’s really obvious if you think about it, but still needs a statement”.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is reaching the absolute peaks of commercial success with almost 100 million copies sold world-wide. This is a height insurmountable for most games, but Red Dead Redemption 2 being one of the most anticipated games of 2018 will understandably have huge amounts of day 1 purchases leading some to speculate that maaaybe in time it can reach these legendary heights.

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive is skeptical, however. In his recent interview for GamesIndustry.biz he stated: “I don’t think that’s a realistic expectation. Our hope, and also belief, is that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be an extraordinary creative product and that it will do incredibly well. Beyond that I can’t say—I don’t think anyone can say. We have to release it and see what consumers think.”

Zelnick is however very confident in the strengths of the title, while seemingly banking on the game’s success stemming from it just being a good game. “We have very powerful, smart, capable competitors bringing great products to market and we need to win – that means we have to work harder than the next guy”—he says. A sentiment not echoed by one Mark Darrah of Bioware.

Red dead Redemption 2 comes out October 26th on consoles. Still no info about the PC release, but it’s a forgone conclusion to be honest.
