If you care about Resident Evil Requiem’s story, it’s time to get off the Internet.

A major controversy has erupted ahead of the game’s upcoming launch, as reports of unauthorized early access to the game began circulating online this week. With just a few days until release, discussion around the situation is spreading rapidly across gaming communities.

Despite numerous trailers and promotional materials, little of the story has been officially revealed so far. Recent leaks may be changing that.

The Leak That Shook the Playerbase

Multiple reports indicate that large portions of the game have leaked online. The leaked material reportedly contains major story spoilers and late-game content.

On Reddit, a lengthy thread appeared, listing previously unrevealed details. On r/ResidentEvilRequiem subreddit, spoilers have practically taken over, with moderators doing what they can to stop the spread.

While Capcom has not issued an official statement yet, it’s clear that the conversation has shifted from anticipation to damage control, making the internet a literal minefield.

Early Copies in the Wild

According to multiple online sources, some players have already got their hands on physical copies of Resident Evil Requiem, more than a week ahead of its scheduled premiere. Players across forums began claiming that they have access to the full game.

Early retail distribution is not uncommon in the gaming industry, with copies reaching stores before release to prepare for launch day. Occasionally, these units end up sold prematurely, whether intentionally or accidentally.

Not The First Time for Resident Evil

Resident Evil has an infamous history of leaked games. As Dusk Golem, known series insider, has stated:

“You can tell this is some people’s first Resident Evil pre-release rodeo. RE9 starting to leak 10 days away from release is actually super good for the series. RE:4 & RE8 leaked 14 days away, RE:3 was 16 days away, & (…) RE7 was almost a whole month before release.”

Pre-release leaks have become a recurring issue for major AAA launches, particularly narrative-driven titles.

Considering we are roughly one week away from the the launch of Resident Evil Requiem, it’ll be pretty hard to avoid spoilers like this. If you care about the game’s story, now is the time to avoid social media and stay as vigilant as you can.
