Capcom dropped a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, and it’s already got the community buzzing.

The game was already riding high after becoming the most wishlisted title at Summer Game Fest in June. This new footage only builds on that momentum.

Grace Ashcroft Steps Into the Spotlight

The trailer focuses on Grace Ashcroft, the game’s new protagonist. It opens quietly. Grace is talking to her mom in what feels like a normal home setting. Then a phone rings. Someone asks for “Miss Ashcroft,” then hangs up. From there, things escalate quickly. Grace’s mom suddenly panics and says, “They’re coming. Grace, we need to go.”

Next comes a full-blown escape through a pitch-black house. The power’s out. Grace and her mom are whispering, trying not to make noise. Along the way, Grace is joined by a second character, Alyssa. Just as the two try to flee, they witness a brutal murder offscreen, a quick, shocking moment that raises more questions than answers. It hits hard but leaves almost everything unexplained.

Some fans have pointed out how familiar this setup feels. A panicked parent, cryptic warnings, no answers. It’s a trope the series has leaned on before, most notably in Resident Evil 8: Village. Whether Requiem brings something new to that formula remains to be seen.

Gameplay, Lore, and What’s Coming Next

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026. It’s confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. Players at Gamescom got early hands-on time with a playable demo at Capcom’s booth.

This is the ninth mainline title in the series, and it brings players back to Raccoon City. Yes, the same one that got hit with a missile strike in 1998 after the Umbrella Corporation’s outbreak. The game’s tagline, “Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living,” connects directly to that history.

I’ve got a feeling that Mom won’t make it

Grace is introduced as an FBI intelligence analyst driven by her mother’s death. She’s not just a side character. Capcom is clearly tying her into the core lore. Expect more Umbrella secrets, government ties, and nods to events from earlier games.

What’s New in Gameplay

You’ll be doing all the usual Resident Evil stuff here: fighting, solving puzzles, tracking clues, and keeping your inventory under control. One big change is the ability to switch between first and third-person views whenever you want. It gives you some control over how you play without messing with the core feel of the game.

Switching from first person to third person gonna be a massive change for RE games franchise

Capcom says they’re using modern tech alongside their experienced team to improve immersion. That could mean better AI, smoother lighting, or more responsive controls. Either way, they’re aiming for a tighter, cleaner experience.

The game will include frequent violence and mature themes, in line with past titles. It’s not a spin-off or remake. This is the next core entry in the series, and it’s sticking to what fans expect from Resident Evil.

Resident Evil Requiem Trailer

Capcom appears to be walking a careful line with Requiem. They’re introducing new characters like Grace and Alyssa while doubling down on franchise history. Returning to Raccoon City and revisiting Umbrella’s legacy seems designed to keep longtime fans engaged. Whether it delivers something new or just replays old beats is the question everyone’s asking.
