Riot Games is ending active development of 2XKO in December 2026, bringing regular development of its League of Legends fighting game to a close less than a year after its full console launch.
The decision follows an earlier reduction of the development team. Riot says 2XKO attracted a dedicated core audience, but player engagement did not reach a level that made continued development sustainable.
2XKO is not shutting down
The important distinction is that 2XKO itself is staying playable. Riot plans to keep the game’s servers online for the foreseeable future, so online matches will continue after active development ends.
Offline play is also unaffected. 2XKO already supports an offline mode for local play, training, and matches against CPU opponents, meaning the game will remain usable even without its online services.
There is still some new content to come before development stops. Lux is scheduled to arrive in September, followed by Samira as the game’s final new champion in October. That October update will also serve as the final major content patch.
Riot intends to deliver a final bug-fix patch in December before active development ends.
Riot is also refunding purchases
As part of the transition, Riot is refunding in-game purchases made on or before August 20, 2026. The studio is also unlocking the full champion roster and changing how much of the game’s existing cosmetic content can be obtained.
So while 2XKO is effectively reaching the end of its life as an actively developed fighting game, this is not a server shutdown. Players will still be able to fight online, and the offline portion of the game will remain available.
