Grasshopper’s new project is finally live on Steam — and it’s every bit as wild and bloody as you’d expect.
Grasshopper Manufacture just dropped the Steam page for Romeo Is a Dead Man, and it’s everything you’d expect from them, weird, violent, and completely unfiltered. If you’re into games with a heavy dose of chaos and character, this one’s worth watching.
Violence in Space, With a Story to Match
The studio’s calling it “ultra-violent science fiction,” and they mean it. You’re Romeo Stargazer, a guy who gets pulled back from the brink of death with some kind of futuristic tech. Space time is broken, criminals are abusing it, and now you’re working for the FBI’s Space Time Police.
Your job is to track down the worst of them. Your personal mission? Find your missing girlfriend, Juliet. Her disappearance might be tied to the whole cosmic disaster. The plot unfolds across multiple chapters, and Romeo wears something called the “Deadgear” mask. It’s unclear what that does yet, but expect it to matter.
Gameplay: Guns, Swords, and Blood
This is a third person, single player action game. Combat is centered around switching between swords and firearms mid fight. The core mechanic: absorb blood from enemies to charge up Romeo’s special move, Bloody Summer.
According to the devs, it can flip tough situations if timed right. Weapons can be upgraded and customized, and there are side missions for players who want to take their time between story beats.
PC Requirements Are Low (For Now)
Specs are pretty modest, especially for a game launching in 2026. No VR mentioned. Here are the key details:
Minimum:
- Windows 10 (64 bit)
- Intel Core i5 8400
- 16 GB RAM
- GeForce GTX 1060
Recommended:
- Ryzen 5 3600X or Intel Core i5 10600K
- RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 6600
- 60 GB storage
If you’ve got a mid range rig, you’ll probably be fine.
Not Safe for Work (or Kids)
According to the Steam page, this one’s firmly in adults-only territory. The warnings aren’t vague or buried in the fine print: nudity, sexual content, intense violence, and graphic gore are all called out clearly. The developers know exactly what they’re putting out, and they’re not shy about it.
If you’re expecting something tame or toned-down just because it’s story-driven, think again. The tone here is raw and unapologetic, and that carries through in both the visuals and the dialogue. If that’s your thing, you’re covered. If not, don’t say you weren’t warned.
Grasshopper Back on Their Own Terms
This marks Grasshopper’s first original IP in a long while. It’s directed by Ren Yamazaki and co written with Suda51, who’s known for cult hits like No More Heroes. If you liked those games, you’ll probably get what they’re going for here. The game is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. There’s no release date yet, just “coming soon.” Interface, audio, and subtitles are supported in nine languages.
Romeo Is a Dead Man Steam
The whole thing feels like it was made for people who miss the era when games took risks, pushed boundaries, and weren’t afraid to get weird. Whether you’re here for the wild premise, the bloody gameplay loop, or just to see what Suda51 and crew have cooked up this time, it looks like the kind of title that rewards curiosity. It might not be for everyone, but if it hits for you, it’ll probably hit hard.
If you’re into stylish, over the top action games with a twist of sci fi weirdness, Romeo Is a Dead Man is shaping up to be one to keep on your radar.
