Sony’s Changing PlayStation PC Strategy
The decision does not appear to come out of nowhere. According to a Bloomberg gaming report, the Sony PS5 exclusives strategy is shifting.
For several years, Sony had gradually expanded its presence on PC by bringing popular PlayStation titles to platforms like Steam.
Games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man proved that there was strong demand for PlayStation experiences outside the console ecosystem.

God of War

Genres: Role-playing (RPG), Hack and slash/Beat 'em up, Adventure
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Now, however, the company may be reconsidering how far it wants to go with that approach.
PS5 Exclusives as a Console Driver
The company is reportedly planning to use its major single-player games as a direct driver of PS5 console sales.
The reasoning is straightforward. If players want to experience upcoming flagship titles like Ghost of Yotei, Marvel’s Wolverine, or Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, they will likely need to own a PlayStation 5.
This move reinforces Sony’s traditional console model, where highly anticipated exclusives help define the value of the platform.
Housemarque and the Saros Situation
As for Saros Housemarque PC plans, those appear to be off the table for now.
Housemarque’s track record on PC may help explain why. Returnal eventually launched on PC, but it arrived two years after the PS5 version. When it did reach Steam, its performance did not match the strongest PlayStation PC releases.
With Saros currently in development, Sony may have reviewed those numbers and decided that keeping the game exclusive to PS5 would be the safer strategy.
Games Still Planned for PC
Not every Sony-published game will be affected by this shift.
Titles developed by external studios still appear to be heading to PC. For example, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which launched as a PS5 exclusive last year, is expected to receive a PC version in 2026.

Genres: Shooter, Adventure
The same applies to Kena: Scars of Kosmora, which is also planned for a PC release.
Why Multiplayer Games Are Different
The change also does not apply to Sony’s online multiplayer titles.
Games such as Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, an action game from Housemarque, are still expected to launch across multiple platforms.

This approach makes sense from a design standpoint. Multiplayer games depend heavily on large, active player bases. Restricting them to a single platform could harm matchmaking and long-term engagement.
What This Means for Sony’s Future Strategy
Overall, this represents a notable shift in Sony’s gaming platform strategy.
For several years, the company treated PC as a valuable secondary market that could generate additional revenue once games had already succeeded on PlayStation hardware.
Many PlayStation ports performed well on Steam, proving that there was strong interest in Sony’s catalog among PC players.
However, the concern now appears to be that widespread PC availability could reduce the incentive to buy a PS5.
If that risk outweighs the revenue from PC sales, Sony may choose to reinforce the value of its console ecosystem instead.
Of course, the situation could still evolve. Sony has adjusted its PC strategy before, and it may do so again depending on future results.
For now, though, it looks like the company is doubling down on PS5 exclusivity as a key part of its long-term platform plan.
