Dave the Diver is heading somewhere considerably stranger than the Blue Hole for its final DLC. MINTROCKET has announced a free crossover with Subnautica 2, sending Dave and Bancho to the alien ocean moon Proteus in early 2027.
The Subnautica 2 Content Pack is being developed with cooperation from Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Rather than stopping at costumes or a cameo, the crossover brings a new area to explore, unfamiliar creatures and resources, new recipes, fresh characters to help, and some very large problems swimming around beneath the surface.
The short version: Dave the Diver’s free Subnautica 2 crossover is planned for early 2027. It requires the base game and is being presented as Dave’s final DLC expansion.
Dave and Bancho are going to Proteus
The story setup starts with an unexpected visitor appearing in the Blue Hole before Dave’s adventure leads beyond a portal and into Proteus, the ocean moon explored in Subnautica 2. The official Steam description promises strange creatures, valuable resources, and discoveries waiting on the other side.
MINTROCKET has not revealed a detailed storyline yet, but Dave and Bancho will travel between dimensions, meet and help new friends, and bring discoveries from Proteus back into the familiar food-focused side of Dave’s life. That means the crossover appears to affect both halves of the game rather than functioning as a detached bonus level.
New fish, new resources, new sushi
Gameplay still looks unmistakably like Dave the Diver. Dave explores underwater, gathers resources, and deals with wildlife, except his next fishing ground happens to be an alien ecosystem from Subnautica 2.
The announcement confirms new creatures and materials to discover, while Bancho gets new and suitably strange recipes to turn those discoveries into dinner. The trailer also shows the crossover leaning into creatures familiar from Proteus, including the Nibbler Mango.
The less relaxing part is the Leviathan. MINTROCKET says Dave will face periodic encounters with Subnautica 2’s massive signature creature, suggesting it will be a recurring threat rather than a single background cameo.
Two underwater hits meet
Dave the Diver has been a major critical and player success, sitting at a 90 Metascore while 96% of more than 51,000 English-language Steam reviews are positive. Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access, so its critical story is less settled, but players have responded strongly so far: its Steam rating currently stands at 93% positive across more than 71,000 English reviews.
The pairing makes plenty of sense. Both games revolve around curiosity pulling you deeper into unfamiliar oceans, even if one usually ends with sushi service and the other with frantic resource gathering, base construction, and wondering what just made that noise in the dark.
Dave the Diver’s big crossover dive
The Subnautica 2 Content Pack is planned for early 2027 and will be free for players who own Dave the Diver. The Steam DLC page is already live for wishlisting, although it does not yet show a specific release date.
