Do you remember 2023’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty?

It seems to be Team Ninja’s slightly forgotten game, next to Nioh and Ninja Gaiden, but it nevertheless got a bunch of expansions and clearly did well enough to warrant the existence of Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, releasing in 2027.

Announced during the XBOX Games Showcase, it is something of a surprise.

The original Wo Long sits at a lower Mixed rating on Steam (counting all languages), which is unfortunate, because it’s a pretty damn fun game with some great setpieces and interesting combat dynamics. Clearly, Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo thought the same, because we got this promising trailer:

It has all the necessary bits: the spooky pills promising immortality, stylish counters and dodges, channeling mythical beasts, and battles against twisted monsters and skilled martial artists alike. The game’s titles, Wings of Ember alludes to the mythical phoenix, which is, indeed, invoked by name in the trailer itself.

The plot seems to stick to the Three-Kingdoms era of ancient China like the predecessor, making Wo Long a great counterpart to the upcoming remake of Dynasty Warriors 3. Both series tap into the same roots, but with very different mindsets, which is quite interesting.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember releases in 2027.

PS: I will never remember this title, because my brain already mixes it up with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Are there more Winged sequels out there? Probably.
