As foretold in the ancient texts (last week’s update patch notes), No Man’s Sky new update got its Expedition, a limited-time event which teaches you all you need to know about the game’s spiffy new system: the Corvette-class ships.
When, How Long and What’s it About?
The Corvette Expedition will run for six weeks from September 3 to October 16, and presents five phases of seven or eight objective to complete, each step awarding a batch of resources such as free parts for your first modular ship, upgrade technologies for your suit, ship, and multitool, decorations, or just credits and nanites.
The tasks involve actions such as defeating some NPC enemies, going for a spacewalk (which is now possible thanks to the Corvettes letting you to leave the pilot’s seat anywhere), or setting an autopilot. Generally speaking, it’s a step-by-step guide to all the things a corvette is good for. There are also some community-oriented tasks, which require a number of player to complete a specific objective, or an optional quest inviting players to join a friend on their ship.
The expedition will take you into a stand-alone reality where the full adventure plays out, but if you go through the Anomaly (unlocked by progressing the game’s gently guiding storyline) you can take some resources into the Expedition. Once you complete the Expedition’s tasks, you’ll also be able to transfer many items back into the main campaign through the terminal in the Anomaly.
The screens below show the phases of the Corvette expedition, at various stages of completion.
The community is already coming up with amazing Corvette designs, serious and silly alike, and the ship builds even got their own flair on the r/NoManSkyTheGame subreddit. If you’d like to get started on that fun, you have until October 16th to complete the expedition and receive some free stuff to help you along.
