Persona Reportedly Heading to Netflix

The Persona franchise may be the next major video game series to get the live-action treatment. A report says Netflix is developing a TV adaptation based on Atlus and SEGA’s long-running RPG series.

For now, this should be treated as a reported project rather than a full public reveal. Netflix has not officially announced the series, and according to reports based on Variety’s story, the streamer declined to comment.

Worth Knowing: Persona has already had anime adaptations, including projects based on Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. A Netflix version would be the franchise’s first reported live-action TV adaptation.

Who Is Involved in the Persona Live-Action Series?

Christopher Monfette is reportedly attached to write the adaptation and serve as showrunner and executive producer. His previous credits include genre TV work such as Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1.

The production side also has some notable names attached. Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps are reportedly set to executive produce, while Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are also involved. SEGA’s Toru Nakahara, known for his work on the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise, is also reportedly attached as an executive producer.

Will It Adapt Persona 5?

That is the big question. Persona 5 is the obvious candidate from a popularity standpoint, especially because its Phantom Thieves imagery, rebellious teen energy, and striking red-and-black visual identity are instantly recognizable. Still, no specific game has been confirmed as the basis for the series.

That leaves several possibilities open. Netflix could adapt Persona 5 directly, revisit another existing entry, or build a completely original story inside the broader Persona formula: modern-day students, social bonds, supernatural threats, hidden worlds, and psychological themes.

That last option may actually make sense. Persona games usually share ideas and themes rather than one simple continuous storyline, so a new cast and setting could give the show more freedom while still feeling connected to the franchise.

The Timing Is Interesting for Persona Fans

The report also arrives shortly after Atlus officially announced Persona 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase. The next mainline entry currently has no release date, but it is confirmed for PS5, Xbox, and PC.

That timing does not prove the TV project is designed to support Persona 6 marketing. Still, it shows that SEGA and Atlus are entering a major new phase for the franchise. Between Persona 6, Persona 4 Revival, and a reported live-action Netflix project, Persona could be moving into one of its biggest mainstream moments yet.

For now, though, fans should keep expectations in check. Until Netflix, SEGA, or Atlus confirms more details, the safest read is simple: a Persona live-action series is reportedly in development, but its story, cast, production timeline, and release window remain unknown.
