I’m still reeling from the news of impending Mercy nerf, but it looks like another one of my favorites is getting a big nerf soon.

Overwatch Torbjorn

Or at least a change. See we all know the deep parallels between Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch, it was never a secret. While Overwatch developed far beyond the confines of this comparison over time, some left-overs are still very much present. Nowhere is it more apparent than with Torbjorn, the turret-building, fantasy dwarf-inspired, Swedish man with anger issues.

Torbjorn plays very passively and it wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that while the peaks of the skill in playing him are quite high, the basics are very, very easy—babysit your turret in a defensive position. And personally I like that. At least I’ve never been accused of losing us the game when playing Torbjorn.

But Overwatch is feeling the same problem Valve had with the Engineer—the character is just too passive. And his ultimate ability, according to the devs, allows too much leeway in making what are just bad decisions.

Currently the plans for changes includes removing the ability for Torbjorn to upgrade his turret and giving him the ability to throw it and overhauling his ultimate completely. Now of course this is pretty difficult to do right, since Torbjorn in order to even be Torbjorn needs to be somewhat passive, that’s the point, and we wouldn’t want for him to just be a copy of new Symmetra.

So these changes are quite long ways away, but the takeaway point from all this is that Blizzard is putting effort into recreating the iconic dwarf to be more in line with the current direction of Overwatch.
