Starfield is arguably the most anticipated space-themed RPG of 2023. It is, in fact, the first major challenge for Bethesda since its acquisition by Microsoft. Will Starfield replicate the success of Skyrim?

Well, to find out, the game would first have to be released. And as it turns out, the planned release has experienced several delays.

Starfield Release – Woes on the Horizon

The first official mention of Starfield, though more of a hint, appeared during the E3 expo in 2018. The details were sparse and little could be inferred from them, although the creators themselves admitted that initial work began as far back as 2012, before the release of Fallout 4, and kicked into full gear shortly thereafter.

We had to wait until 2021 for official news – that’s when we heard the first, not coincidental, Starfield release date. Not coincidental because the announced date of November 11, 2022, “coincided” with the 11th anniversary of the beloved Skyrim, much cherished by gamers.

Unfortunately, as time revealed, Bethesda Softworks needed more time to refine the game’s details, and this time the release was pushed to the first half of 2023.

When is Starfield Coming Out?

Since Microsoft’s management was aware of players’ expectations for Starfield and at the same time feared a similar media storm that erupted around CD Projekt RED after the release of the (initially) unfinished Cyberpunk 2077, the decision regarding the game’s release date was left to its creators.

As a result, we received the official and final release date for Starfield – namely, September 6, 2023.

This means that we are only weeks away from the game’s release!

For the less patient ones, the option to pre-order the game and the Premium Digital or Constellation Editions has been prepared, along with the opportunity to play Starfield a few days earlier, starting from September 1, 2023.
