What is the Modern Warfare 4 campaign about?
This time, the war starts on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, throwing a young group of South Korean soldiers into a collapsing frontline.
One of the central playable characters is Private Park, a South Korean soldier experiencing live combat for the first time. Elsewhere, Captain Price has become an operator working outside the system, pursuing his own mission while staying ahead of the forces hunting him.
The campaign is going global again. Infinity Ward has confirmed trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters fighting in New York, chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and larger assaults aimed at reclaiming occupied territory.
The result sounds less like one uninterrupted special-forces operation and more like two very different views of the same escalating war: inexperienced soldiers trying to survive the front and Price conducting a much more personal conflict in the shadows.
Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer and gameplay changes
Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer launches with 12 all-new 6v6 maps, alongside larger battlefields where infantry and vehicles can fight across spaces connected to the game’s broader conflict.
Infinity Ward is also pushing what it calls Ballistic Authority. In practical terms, the goal is more predictable gunplay where aiming, weapon handling, stance, visibility, audio, and bullet behavior work together. The headline promise is simple: no random bloom deciding whether a properly aimed shot connects.
Movement remains fluid, but the overall pitch is grounded combat rather than turning every firefight into an acrobatics competition.

Modern Warfare 4 beta dates
Call of Duty: NEXT takes place on August 21, 2026, with live Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer gameplay, developer commentary, and additional reveals.
The Early Access Beta begins immediately afterward and runs from August 21 to August 25 for eligible preorder players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The Open Beta runs from August 28 to September 1 and opens the doors to everyone on supported platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2.
Activision says the beta will feature up to 19 weapons and a range of battles stretching from small 3v3 fights to larger encounters featuring vehicles. Search & Destroy, Kill Block, and a Training Mobility Course are among the confirmed content.
How does DMZ work in Modern Warfare 4?
DMZ is back, but Infinity Ward is treating it as much more than a repeat of the earlier beta.
The new version takes place in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, a large contested region shaped by the aftermath of the campaign. You can deploy solo or with a squad, complete narrative Story Missions, tackle changing Dynamic Operations, hunt valuable targets, explore freely, fight AI forces and rival players, loot gear, and decide when the risk has become too great to stay.
Hajin also has dynamic weather, escalating enemy responses, improved AI squads, bosses and armored threats, plus a persistent Forward Operating Base where you manage your stash, weapons, crafting, operators, objectives, and longer-term progression between deployments.
In other words, this is the part of MW4 for people who enjoy Call of Duty gunplay but want a slower question hanging over every firefight: is this loot worth dying for?
Modern Warfare 4 platforms and Game Pass
Modern Warfare 4 is confirmed for:
