The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy RPG from Rebel Wolves, built around a nasty little problem: Coen has 30 days to save his family, and helping everyone else along the way simply is not possible.
Human by day and vampire by night, Coen explores a plague-ravaged corner of 14th-century Europe where quests consume time, missed opportunities have consequences, and vampires have decided humanity’s worst moment is an excellent time to take over.

Coen and the story premise
Coen is a young man living in 14th-century Europe during an especially miserable stretch of history. War is spreading, the Black Death is tearing through communities, and vampires decide this is the perfect opportunity to step out of hiding and seize power.
Coen’s home lies in Vale Sangora, where the vampire ruler Brencis and his followers have subjugated the local population. After events in his village turn disastrous, Coen himself becomes something unusual: a Dawnwalker.
He is neither completely human nor a conventional vampire. Daylight does not destroy him, allowing him to exist in both worlds.
Brencis plans to sacrifice Coen’s imprisoned family in 30 days. What happens before then is largely up to the player. Coen can focus on saving them, pursue revenge, investigate the valley’s secrets, form alliances, or spend his limited time helping people whose problems may have nothing to do with his own.
The important part is that there is no time for every story.

How does time work in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
The 30-day limit sounds like a timer constantly ticking in the corner of the screen, but that is not how it works.
Simply wandering through the open world does not continuously consume your remaining days. You can explore, look around, listen to conversations, search for opportunities, and decide what deserves Coen’s attention without watching precious minutes disappear in real time.
Time moves forward when you commit to meaningful actions and quests. Rebel Wolves describes this as part of the game’s narrative sandbox. Helping one person might mean giving up the time needed to help somebody else.
The prologue demonstrates the idea clearly. A day can be divided into eight portions. Coen is free to investigate the village, but once he begins making consequential choices, the day starts moving toward its unavoidable events.
That turns time into a resource rather than a stopwatch.
The important bit: you can take your time exploring. What costs time is committing Coen to events that move his story, and you will not be able to complete every opportunity in one playthrough.
Human by day, vampire by night
The calendar is not the only reason time matters. Day and night also change how Coen plays.
During the day, he relies more heavily on swordsmanship and magic. At night, his vampiric nature comes to the foreground, giving him access to supernatural movement and combat abilities.

That means the same area or objective can offer different approaches depending on when Coen tackles it. The official description specifically promises different abilities, mysteries, and ways of reaching goals across the two states.
The Blood of Dawnwalker gameplay and combat system
Combat is built around swordplay that can be as assisted or as directional as the player wants. Rebel Wolves says players can use omniblocks and omniattacks, which automatically choose the direction of swings and deflections, or switch to a more tactical directional approach that requires reading an opponent’s movement and responding accordingly.
Positioning and timing matter more than button mashing
The developers want fights to feel like dangerous exchanges rather than simple damage races. Positioning, timing, commitment, and recognizing openings all matter, with combat taking inspiration from Historical European Martial Arts and other historical material without trying to simulate medieval sword fighting one-to-one.
A large amount of the combat was captured through motion capture and then adjusted by animators. Individual attacks are built around windup, anticipation, and swing phases so that opponents remain readable while the action still feels responsive.

Different swords change the rhythm of combat
Coen primarily uses swords, but they are not all interchangeable. The available types include short swords, long swords, and great swords, with different weapons affecting attack speed and how combat feels. Rebel Wolves has also confirmed that axes and other weapons can be picked up along the way.
Swordmastery grows through books, abilities, and perks
Progression is not limited to increasing statistics. Finding books can unlock new techniques and combat abilities, while passive perks support different swordplay styles. Players can build around defense and counterattacks, mobility and aggression, or sustained pressure.

Swordmastery is also one of the game’s major progression trees alongside Witchcraft and Vampirism. Each has its own Ultimate Perk, giving players separate ways to develop Coen’s human combat, magic, and supernatural abilities.
Coen is more than a swordsman
The sword is only part of his toolkit. Coen can also use his newly acquired claws and witchcraft, with the balance between those systems changing as his human and vampiric sides come into play.
The Blood of Dawnwalker PC system requirements
Rebel Wolves has now revealed the final PC system requirements, covering four performance targets from 1080p at 30 FPS up to 2160p at 60 FPS. The listed targets account for the use of NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS in Balanced mode.
