Control charts are very important tools used in Statistical Process Control (SPC) to determine if a manufacturing or business process is in a state of statistical control, that is, they help monitor the stability of a process.
In this course the learner will be introduced to the main features of control charts including the data points, a centerline (mean value), and upper and lower limits (bounds to indicate where a process output is considered 'out of control'). The course describes how control charts visually display the fluctuations of a particular process variable, such as temperature, in a way that lets the engineer easily determine whether these variations fall within the specified process limits.
